每日诗歌: Grace Alone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6lhilgWXIE)
“唯独恩典”是我最喜爱的当代圣诗之一。它那丰富和感人的歌词伴随着简单易学的旋律，优美的表达了基督教信仰最重要的教义之一 -- 恩典。 “你们得救是本乎恩，也因着信”（弗2:8）。的确，没有人可以自夸。副歌尤其打动我：“唯独恩典神赐给，未知能力他提供，基督为我房角石，唯靠恩典往前行”。我每次听这首歌，眼里都充满泪水。

“Grace alone” is one of my favorite contemporary hymns. Its rich and moving words accompanied by the easy-to-follow melody beautifully convey one of the most important doctrines of the Christian faith – grace. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith” (Eph 2:8). Indeed, there is no room for boasting. I am especially touched by the refrain: “Grace Alone which God supplies, strength unknown he will provide, Christ in us our cornerstone, we will go forth in Grace Alone”. Every time I listen to the song, tears fill my eyes.
How does God’s grace come to us? The prologue of John (Jn 1:1-18) answered for us. “And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace” (Jn 1:16, ESV). It is through the fullness of Jesus Christ, who came to dwell among us, full of grace and truth. Throughout the OT reading we have done, God’s grace was given in many ways unto different people. But sinners were good in receiving grace, not in showing grace. The end result was like Jeroboam in today’s OT reading. He received 10 tribes of Israel freely from God, yet he turned and built two golden calves to lure the people away from God.
John showed us a different way. He presented to us a person who was full of grace. The person gave himself as the bread of life (6:35), so we may never be hunger and thirty again. He showed himself as the light of the world (8:12), so we may never walk in darkness again. He revealed himself as the good shepherd (10:10), so we may not only have life, but have it abundantly. He pointed himself as the way, the truth, and the life (14:6), so we may go to the Father through him. That’s how grace works. It’s a continuous giving of oneself for the benefits of others.
There are two large lakes in Palestine. The Dead Sea is at the lowest point geographically, so it receives water from all streams. No fish can survive in its salty environment. There is no life. In contrast, water flows into the Sea of Galilee from upstream and flows out through the Jordan to downstream. That’s where the disciples caught fishes, and that’s also where Jesus performed many miracles. There is life, abundant life.
Let the grace supplied by God strengthen you today, and let Christ be the cornerstone of your life, so that you may go forth to face all challenges in Grace Alone.
